LED floodlights: the complete buying guide

An LED floodlight throws a powerful, wide beam over a large area from a single mounting point. That makes it the standard choice wherever outdoor space needs even, economical light. Compared with metal halide or halogen floodlights, LED uses far less energy, reaches full brightness instantly and lasts many times longer, so there's much less maintenance at height.

  • Facades and buildingsHighlight architecture, signage and entrances. 10W–50W in warm or neutral white gives a clean, representative look.
  • Car parks and drivewaysEven light improves safety and deters theft. Pole- or wall-mounted floodlights of 50W–150W cover large surfaces with few fittings.
  • Yards and loading docksMove goods safely after dark. Neutral or cool white helps with reading labels and spotting obstacles.
  • Construction sitesIP66 housings handle rain, dust and vibration on temporary masts through the dark winter months.
  • Sports fieldsFootball, tennis, hockey and padel need high, uniform light with low glare: typically 200W–400W on masts of 12 m or more.
  • Security lightingCombined with a motion sensor, the light only switches on when someone approaches. It saves energy and deters intruders.

Which wattage do you need?

The right wattage depends on the area, the mounting height and the light level you need. These are indicative values; a lighting plan gives the exact answer.

Indicative values based on EN 12464-2 (outdoor workplaces) and EN 12193 (sports lighting).

Efficiency: why lm/W matters

Wattage is what a floodlight uses; lumens per watt is how much light you get for it. A 100W floodlight at 180 lm/W produces 18,000 lumens, one at 100 lm/W only 10,000. Higher efficiency means fewer or smaller fittings for the same result and a lower energy bill for years.

Colour temperature

3000K warm white suits facades, terraces and residential areas. 4000K neutral white is the all-rounder for car parks, yards and commercial premises. 5000K–6000K cool white gives crisp, high-contrast light for construction sites, security and sports fields.

Beam angle

A wide beam (around 90°–120°) spreads light over a large area from a low mounting height. A narrow or asymmetric beam (around 30°–60°) throws light further and is used on high masts, sports fields and tall facades without spill onto neighbouring property. Check the beam angle on each product page.

The driver makes the difference

The driver is the part that most often fails in cheap floodlights. That's why our models use drivers from Sosen, Philips or Mean Well, with surge protection and stable output.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an LED floodlight last?

A quality LED floodlight with a branded driver typically lasts 50,000 hours or more: over ten years at 12 hours a day. All our models carry a manufacturer's warranty of up to 5 years.

Can I replace a halogen or metal halide floodlight with LED?

Yes. An LED floodlight needs roughly a third to a quarter of the old wattage for the same light. A 400W metal halide floodlight can usually be replaced by 100W–150W LED.

Are the floodlights suitable for year-round outdoor use?

Yes. Every model is rated IP66: fully dust-tight and protected against heavy rain and water jets, in frost and heat alike.

How many floodlights do I need for a sports field?

That depends on the pitch size, the sport and the level of play. Send us the dimensions and we'll recommend the number of fittings, wattage and mast height.
