Where to Buy ATEX LED Lighting? Checklist, Range and Prices
Where to buy ATEX LED lighting: buying channels compared, a 6-point checklist, which ex-proof luminaire fits which area, and current prices for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
Short answer: you can buy ATEX LED lighting from specialist ex-protection suppliers, through electrical wholesalers, or directly online. Clightstore sells ATEX high bays, linear lights and floodlights for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 online, from €149.55 incl. VAT, with delivery across the EU in about 14 business days. Whatever you buy, the luminaire must match the zone, the gas or dust group and the temperature class of your area. This page shows what to check before you order and which luminaire fits which situation.

- Before ordering: know your zone (from the explosion protection document), gas or dust, gas group and temperature class.
1. Where can you buy ATEX lighting?
| Channel | Advantage | Disadvantage |
|---|---|---|
| Specialist ex-protection supplier | Very wide range, also Zone 0 and special designs | Highest prices, often on request only |
| Electrical wholesaler | Familiar for installers, one invoice | Rarely in stock, ordered from the manufacturer with a margin on top |
| Online direct (Clightstore) | Prices visible, direct import, ordered in a few clicks | Standard luminaires; no Zone 0 |
| Marketplaces | Cheap | Certificates often impossible to verify; not acceptable in an ex zone |
2. Check these 6 points before you order
- The zone. The operator determines the zone and records it in the explosion protection document. A supplier cannot do that for you.
- Gas or dust. Zones 1 and 2 are for gas (marking G), Zones 21 and 22 for dust (marking D). Many luminaires cover both.
- The equipment category. Category 2 for Zone 1 or 21, category 3 for Zone 2 or 22. A category 2 luminaire may also be used in Zone 2 or 22, not the other way round.
- Gas group and temperature class. Compare the marking with the substances in your area. Hydrogen, for example, needs gas group IIC.
- A verifiable certificate. Ask for the EU declaration of conformity and the ATEX certificate number, and look it up in the database of the notified body.
- Installation. Only a qualified electrician may connect ex-proof luminaires, following EN 60079-14.
What every part of an ATEX marking means, and the difference between the zones, is explained in ATEX & Ex-Proof LED Lighting: Zones Explained.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy ATEX lighting as a private person?
Yes, you can order online. Installation in an ex zone must still be done by a qualified electrician.
How long does delivery take?
Most ATEX luminaires are delivered in about 14 business days. For a planned shutdown or a new building, order in time. For large quantities, ask for availability first.
Can you tell me which zone my area is?
No. The zone classification is the operator's responsibility, based on the substances, the ventilation and EN/IEC 60079-10-1, and is recorded in the explosion protection document. Once you know the zone, we help you choose the luminaire.
Do I get the certificates?
Yes. Ask us for the data sheet, the EU declaration of conformity and the ATEX certificate of the luminaire you choose, before or after ordering.
Is a Zone 1 luminaire also allowed in Zone 2?
Yes. Equipment for Zone 1 (category 2) may also be used in Zone 2. A Zone 2 luminaire may not be used in Zone 1.
Why is ATEX lighting so much more expensive than normal LED?
The housing must withstand an internal explosion or prevent any ignition source, and every model is tested by a notified body. That makes ATEX luminaires several times more expensive than normal LED luminaires of the same wattage.
