Project: YP Eurofix – LED high bays and LED trunking in a new workshop
Furniture maker YP Eurofix lit its new 4,000 m² hall in As with LED high bays, LED trunking lines and LED floodlights: 500 lux at the workplaces and 62% less power than a conventional installation.
For its new 4,000 m² hall in As (Belgium), interior construction and furniture maker YP Eurofix chose LED from day one: 16 LED high bays 150W above the loading and storage area, 40 LED trunking lines of 60W above the workshop and 8 LED floodlights 100W outside. The workplaces get 500 lux, with 62% less power than a conventional installation would need.

- 16 LED high bays 150W in the high hall, 40 LED trunking lines 60W above the workplaces, 8 LED floodlights 100W outside.
- 500 lux at the workplaces, planned in advance with a DIALux light study.
- 5,600W connected load instead of 14,800W for a comparable conventional installation: 62% less power.

The starting point
YP Eurofix designs and builds custom interiors and furniture. For its new hall in As, with a clear height of around 8 m, the lighting had to be planned from scratch for three very different zones.
Three zones, three tasks
The high front hall is used for loading trucks and storing panels and finished furniture. The workshop is where panels are cut, machined and assembled, which needs bright, even light without hard shadows. Outside, the yard and loading doors needed light for the dark months.
500 lux for precise work
Cutting and assembling furniture to the millimetre, and judging colours of panels and finishes, needs a high light level. The target for the workplaces was 500 lux.
The solution
Light study for each zone
Before ordering, we made a DIALux light study for the whole building. It assigned a luminaire type to each zone: high bays where height and open space dominate, light lines where people work at machines and benches, and floodlights outside.
High hall: 16 LED high bays 150W
Above the loading and storage area, 16 LED high bays hang at 8 m. Each fitting gives around 31,500 lumen at 210 lm/W in daylight white 5000K, with a 90° beam and an IP65 housing against dust. More in our LED high bay guide or all high bays 150W.

Workshop: 40 LED trunking lines 60W
Above the workshop, 40 LED trunking lines of 60W are suspended in continuous rows. A trunking system gives a long, even line of light, which suits rows of machines and workbenches: there are no bright spots and dark gaps between fittings, and shadows on the work are soft. The lines hang below the concrete ceiling, close to the work, and give 500 lux at the workplaces. Our trunking systems are supplied on request, matched to the layout: see LED linear trunking systems and our guide on planning LED light lines and trunking.

Outside: 8 LED floodlights 100W
The yard and loading doors are lit by 8 LED floodlights 100W. Each gives 18,000 lumen at 180 lm/W with a wide 120° beam, and the colour temperature can be set on site. IP66 protects them against rain and dust.

Energy savings in figures
Because this is a new build, there was no old installation. The figures compare the LED installation with the conventional installation the hall would otherwise have needed.
| Conventional | LED | Difference | |
|---|---|---|---|
| High hall | 16 × 400W metal halide | 16 × 150W LED high bay | −4,000W |
| Workshop | 40 × 130W twin fluorescent | 40 × 60W LED trunking | −2,800W |
| Outside | 8 × 400W metal halide floodlight | 8 × 100W LED floodlight | −2,400W |
| Connected load | 14,800W | 5,600W | −62% |
| Load per m² | 3.7W/m² | 1.4W/m² | −2.3W/m² |
| Consumption per year | 41,440 kWh | 15,680 kWh | −25,760 kWh |
| Electricity cost per year | €12,846 | €4,861 | −€7,986 |
| CO2 per year | 6.2 t | 2.4 t | −3.9 t |
How we calculated this
- Conventional: 16 × 400W + 40 × 130W + 8 × 400W = 14,800W × 2,800 h = 41,440 kWh per year.
- LED: 16 × 150W + 40 × 60W + 8 × 100W = 5,600W × 2,800 h = 15,680 kWh per year.
- Cost: 25,760 kWh × €0.31/kWh = €7,986 per year.
- CO2: 25,760 kWh × 0.15 kg/kWh = 3.9 t per year.
For simplicity, the floodlights are counted with the same operating hours as the hall. Ballast losses of conventional lamps are not counted, so the real difference is even larger.
Investment
At current webshop prices, the 16 high bays and 8 floodlights cost €2,128. The trunking system is supplied on request and priced per project, depending on the length of the lines and the options. Half of the luminaire investment was covered by a subsidy. Ask us for a quote for your own layout.

The result
- 500 lux at the workplaces: bright, even light for cutting, machining and assembling furniture.
- The right luminaire per zone: high bays in the high hall, light lines in the workshop, floodlights outside.
- 62% less power: 5,600W instead of 14,800W for a comparable conventional installation.
- Soft shadows at the benches: continuous trunking lines instead of separate fittings.
- Lower running costs: €7,986 less on electricity every year and 3.9 tonnes less CO2.

Frequently asked questions
How many lux does a furniture workshop need?
For machining and assembling wood and panels, around 500 lux at the workplace is a common target, with more at detailed finishing and inspection tasks. In storage and loading areas, a lower level is enough. At YP Eurofix the workplaces get 500 lux.
High bays or a trunking system in a workshop?
High bays suit high, open zones such as loading and storage areas. Above rows of machines and workbenches, a trunking system gives a continuous line of light with soft shadows and no dark gaps. YP Eurofix uses both, each in the zone where it works best.
Why choose LED from the start in a new hall?
A conventional installation would need 14,800W here instead of 5,600W, and would have to be replaced within a few years anyway. Choosing LED in the new build avoids the higher bills and the second installation.
How is the saving calculated for a new building?
We compare the LED installation with the conventional installation the hall would otherwise have needed: 400W metal halide high bays and floodlights and twin fluorescent fittings in the workshop. Here that difference is 9,200W, or 25,760 kWh and €7,986 per year.
Can a trunking system be ordered from the webshop?
Our trunking systems are supplied on request, because the line lengths, power and options are matched to each building. Send us your floor plan and we prepare a layout and quote.
Can you make a free light plan for my new hall?
Yes. Send us the floor plan with ceiling heights and how each zone will be used. We make a free DIALux light study and send a non-binding quote at direct-import prices.
Send us the floor plan and ceiling heights. We prepare a free DIALux light plan and a non-binding quote at direct-import prices, 2 to 4 times below comparable branded luminaires. Delivery throughout the EU, up to 5 years' warranty.
