EX Floodlights – ATEX LED Floodlights for Hazardous Outdoor Areas

EX floodlights from our ATEX explosion-proof lighting range are designed for hazardous outdoor and process environments where flammable gases, vapours, or combustible dusts may be present. Typical installations include refineries, chemical plants, filling stations, and loading zones. Built from die-cast aluminium with an IP66 rating and designed for ATEX zones 1, 2, 21, and 22, these fittings are engineered to perform reliably in demanding industrial conditions across a broad operating temperature range.

ATEX certificate: our explosion-proof luminaires are covered by EU-type examination certificate ECM 23 ATEX-B UU46 of the manufacturer Changzhou Maxtree Technology Co., Ltd. (Ente Certificazione Macchine, notified body 1282), issued on 16 March 2023 and valid until 15 March 2028. Marking: II 2 G Ex d IIC T6 and II 2 D Ex tD A21 IIIC T80°C. Always check the rating plate of the model you order.

Is this the right choice?

  • Outdoor floodlighting in hazardous zones: EX floodlights are the appropriate solution when you need wide-area illumination of yards, tank farms, or loading bays classified as ATEX zones 1, 2, 21, or 22. Always verify the ATEX marking and certificate on the product datasheet before installation.
  • High-bay or indoor process areas: For classified indoor spaces with high ceilings such as warehouses or process halls, consider our EX high bays, which are optimised for downward illumination at height.
  • Linear or aisle lighting in hazardous areas: Where you need to light aisles, walkways, or linear production lines in classified zones, our EX linear lights offer a more suitable form factor.
  • Extreme temperature environments: With an operating range of −40 °C to +50 °C, many models suit cold-climate outdoor installations as well as hot process environments without additional accessories.

Frequently asked questions

What mounting height and pole height are suitable for EX floodlights?

EX floodlights in this range work well on poles or structures typically between 6 m and 12 m for yard and perimeter lighting. The 90° beam angle concentrates light effectively at moderate heights. For very large open areas, higher mounting points reduce the number of poles required. Consult your lighting designer or request a free plan to confirm the optimum height for your site.

What do these floodlights replace in existing hazardous-area installations?

EX LED floodlights typically replace older high-pressure sodium (HPS) or metal halide discharge fittings. A 150 W LED unit can often substitute a 400 W HPS fitting, and a 240 W unit may replace a 600 W to 1000 W HPS lamp, significantly reducing energy consumption and maintenance frequency given the 100,000-hour rated lifespan.

How do I estimate how many EX floodlights I need for my site?

A practical starting point is the formula: number of fittings = (area in m² × target lux level) ÷ (luminous output per fitting × utilisation factor). Use a utilisation factor of 0.5 to 0.7 for outdoor floodlighting. For example, a 150 W fitting with an efficacy of up to 130 lm/W produces about 19,500 lm. To illuminate 1,000 m² to 100 lux with a utilisation factor of 0.6, you would need approximately nine fittings. See our guide on outdoor lighting for business premises and loading zones for further guidance.

What is the lead time, and does ATEX status affect delivery?

EX floodlights in this range are available with a lead time of 14 working days. Because these are specialist fittings designed for ATEX zones, they are not typically held as standard stock items. Always confirm availability at the time of order. For a detailed understanding of zone classifications and what to check on the datasheet before ordering, refer to our guide on ATEX explosion-proof LED lighting for zones 1, 2, 21, and 22.
