LED sports field lighting: floodlights for tennis, padel, football and training fields

LED sports field lighting covers the full range of outdoor and indoor competition and training venues, with floodlights available from 60W to 750W, efficacy up to 170 lm/W, beam angles from 20° to 90°, and colour temperatures of 4000K or 5000K. Whether you are illuminating a tennis court, a padel court, a football pitch, a riding arena, or a general training field, the right floodlight from our LED floodlights range is determined by pole height, required lux, and beam angle.

  • Tennis and padel courtsNarrow beams of 20°–40° from poles of 6–8 m deliver even coverage without glare on fast-moving balls.
  • Football and training pitchesHigher poles require asymmetric or medium beams; higher-wattage units cover large areas uniformly at the required lux.
  • Riding arenas and equestrian hallsConsistent, glare-controlled light at appropriate lux levels keeps horses calm and supports safe riding.
  • Multi-use training facilitiesDimmable drivers (1-10V or DALI) allow lux levels to be adjusted from full competition output down to training or energy-saving modes.

Which wattage / optic for which situation?

Application Suggested wattage Recommended beam angle
Padel court (pole 4–6 m) 60W–150W 60°–90°
Tennis court (pole 6–8 m) 150W–300W 30°–60°
Training field (pole 8–12 m) 300W–500W 20°–40°
Football pitch (pole 12–20 m) 500W–750W 20°–30°
Riding arena (low to mid pole) 100W–300W 60°–90°

Indicative values; a lighting plan gives the exact choice.

How many do you need?

A straightforward starting rule is: required lumens = area (m²) × required lux ÷ utilisation factor. A tennis court of 36 x 18 m = 648 m² at 300 lux with utilisation factor 0.5 needs about 390,000 lm of luminaires, roughly 10 floodlights of 250W at about 150 lm/W (about 37,500 lm each). For further guidance on lux targets and pole layouts, read our articles on tennis court lighting and football pitch lux requirements.

What to look for

  • IP rating and housing: All models carry IP66 and are built from die-cast aluminium, making them fully dustproof and jet-water resistant for permanent outdoor installation.
  • Driver quality and dimming: Drivers from Philips, Moso, Sosen, and BOKE are used across the range. Many models support 1-10V or DALI dimming, useful for training modes or energy management; check individual product pages for availability.
  • Lifespan and warranty: A rated lifespan of 50,000 hours and a 5-year warranty reduce maintenance visits — important on high poles or in public facilities.
  • Operating temperature and colour rendering: Units operate from -20 to 55°C and offer CRI Ra>70, suitable for recreational and club-level play across all seasons.
  • Colour temperature: 5000K gives a crisp daylight appearance favoured for ball sports where visual contrast matters; 4000K provides a slightly warmer neutral white suited to multi-use and equestrian venues.

Replacing old lamps with LED

Sports field floodlights in this range replace high-wattage discharge lamps commonly found on existing installations, including 1250W, 2000W, 2500W, 3000W, 3750W, and 7500W units. Switching to LED cuts energy consumption dramatically while maintaining or improving lux levels, and the instant start-up eliminates the warm-up delay associated with metal halide lamps. For advice on retrofitting an existing installation, the football pitch lighting planning guide covers the key retrofit considerations.

Frequently asked questions

What beam angle should I choose for a tennis court?

Beam angle depends primarily on pole height and pole position relative to the court. Narrower angles such as 20°–40° are typically used on taller or more distant poles to concentrate light precisely on the playing surface. Our tennis court lighting guide explains pole layouts in detail.

Are these floodlights suitable for padel courts?

Yes. Lower-wattage units with wider beams of 60°–90° work well on the shorter poles typical of padel installations. See our padel court lighting guide for recommended lux levels and pole positions.

Can the floodlights be dimmed?

Many models support 1-10V or DALI dimming, which allows lux levels to be reduced during training sessions or off-peak hours. Some models have no dimming option, so confirm the specification on the individual product page before ordering.

What colour temperature is best for outdoor sport?

5000K is commonly chosen for ball sports because the crisp daylight appearance helps players track fast-moving objects. 4000K is a neutral white that suits equestrian and multi-use venues where a slightly softer tone is preferred.

How long will the floodlights last and what warranty is offered?

The rated lifespan is 50,000 hours and each unit carries a 5-year warranty. At typical usage of around 2,000 hours per year, that represents many years of service before any lamp replacement is required.

Are these floodlights certified for use in the UK and Europe?

All units carry CE and RoHS certification, confirming compliance with European safety and environmental directives.

What high-wattage discharge lamps do these LED floodlights replace?

Models in this range are designed to replace 1250W, 2000W, 2500W, 3000W, 3750W, and 7500W discharge lamps, covering the full spectrum of existing sports lighting installations from small club courts to large competition pitches.
